Brad Collett leads the Tennessee River Studio,
a collaboration with the UT ORNL Governor’s Chair for Energy and Urbanism. The project launched fall 2016 with a 1,000+ mile tour of the Tennessee River’s main stem. This teaching, research, and outreach initiative investigates how the river system, the communities it supports, and the watershed’s elemental landscapes and infrastructures may be recalibrated to thrive amidst the grand challenges of the next century through integrated planning and design. Bank erosion and stream restoration workshop
On March 3rd, representatives from the TNWRRC, including Director Thanos Papanicolaou, Associate Director Tim Gangaware, John Schwartz, Mohammad Ghaneeizad, and Christopher Wilson met with various state agencies during a workshop to address bank erosion and stream restoration concerns in Tennessee.

Initiative for Food, Water, and Energy (IFWE)
Agroecosystems in Tennessee will experience higher temperatures and climate variability in upcoming decades. We can expect to see more frequent and intense droughts, flooding, and drying-rewetting pulses, along with more pests and plant diseases. All of these can take a toll on crop yields throughout the state.

| SEC Academic Conference Highlights —
The 2017 SEC Academic Conference was held this year in Starkville, Mississippi on March 27-28th. This year’s theme was “The Future of Water: Regional Collaboration Shared Climate, Coastlines, and Watersheds.” Researchers from the schools of the Southeastern Conference and the state Water Resources Research Centers met for several panel discussions on up-and-coming water quality and quantity worries. Christopher Wilson represented the TNWRRC in the panel discussions focusing on future environmental hydrology topics in the southeast. For this panel, he highlighted the key initiatives of the TNWRRC, including a multi-state effort examining nutrient dynamics in the Mississippi River Basin, bank erosion, soil moisture, and storm event monitoring. |

TNWRRC is partnering with the Water Quality Forum to co-sponsor the following events—
- Rain Barrel Workshops—Learn about and take home your own rain barrel ready to attach and collect rain water! These workshops are being held at various dates and locations. Find out more
- Water Fest on May 9, 2017—A free-of-charge educational and fun-filled elementary school field trip event for public and private K-5 classes and home school groups. Find out more
- Families in the Creek on June 10, 2017—This is a family event and is free to the public. Learn about the creek’s aquatic life and what you can to do to help keep our community’s creeks clean through three activities. Find out more
